Frederick Herschel Stringer (1900 – 1945)
Herschel Stringer was born on Herschel Island, the son of Sarah “Sadie” and Rev. Isaac O Stringer. Herschel graduated as a doctor from the University of Toronto in 1926 and did post-graduate studies in Edinburgh and London, England.1)
In July 1927, Herschel Stringer was involved in the Arctic Expedition as the ship’s doctor on board the SS Beothic.2)
Lieutenant Colonel Herschel Stringer served in the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp.3) Frederick Stringer died of natural causes aboard the U.S.S. Catala as it was getting ready to sail north from Vancouver. At the time he was the Commanding Officer of the Prince George Military Hospital.4)
