Gilmore and Elsie Starr
Gilmore and Elsie Starr sold their cyclone devastated home in North Dakota and came north when they heard about the Klondike strike. They arrived in Skagway in 1897 and Gilmore contracted spinal meningitis when they were packing their belongings over the Chilkoot Pass. They arrived in Dawson in 1898 and prospected on the Klondike and Eureka creeks. Elsie owned and operated a roadhouse on Hunker Creek in 1899. By about 1905, the couple were prospecting on the Pelly River and they may have remained in the Starr Creek area for about five years.1)
