Heinz Sauer
Heinz Sauer grew up in Munich and arrived in Canada when he was 21. He came to the Yukon in 1978 and worked at the Faro lead-zinc-silver mine. He liked the bush so bought a trap line and worked for another trapper for half a year to learn the skills. His cabin is downriver from Minto and so he built a boat of plywood and fibreglass. Encouraged by friends, he started giving boat rides and tours of Fort Selkirk. His last boat was a sleek Yukon-built aluminium vessel. He ferried tourists from Minto to Fort Selkirk for fifteen years, from 1992 to 2007.1)
