H.A.R. Stewart
H.A.R. Stewart came to the Yukon before the gold rush. He and his family were mining on the left limit of Miller Creek in 1933. They had a 60-foot shaft and drifted along the channel. They had self-dumping equipment to move the pay dirt to the head of the sluice boxes. They recovered cinnabar which they retorted for mercury. The son, Gordon Stewart, and his bride were part of the family mine. The mine was rich enough to afford them a nice home near Seattle and good education for their children. Stewart kept mining and prospecting almost to the end of his days.1)
