Phyllis Simpson (1930 - 2016)
Phyllis was born at Yukon Crossing to parents Aime “Happy” and Pauline LePage. She and younger sister Amy grew up along the banks of the Yukon River as their parents owned and operated a network of wood camps supplying wood for the sternwheelers. She was in three sternwheeler accidents including the Klondike I that sank just below Hootalinqua. She finished high school in Whitehorse and attended business school in Calgary. She returned to Whitehorse to work and met and married RCMP Corporal James Robert “Jim” Simpson in 1953. They raised three daughters. Jim was posted to many places across Canada before they returned and retired in Whitehorse. In 2006 Phyllis returned to work during the winters at the Whitehorse Visitor Information Centre where she was employed until the time of her death.1) Phyllis Simpson was interviewed by Cal Waddington for Parks and Historic Sites, July - September 1978.2)
