Roland Small (d. 1942)
Roland Small was one of five fatalities from the 18th Engineers regiment during the construction of the Alaska Highway. Others were George Wolters, John R. Morrison, Gene Wolford, and George Biles. Small died in a jeep accident near km 1795 on the Alaska Highway on 9 August 1942. His accident is marked by a stone cairn erected by his platoon. His memorial service was in Whitehorse in a Jewish service at the Anglican Church led by a Lutheran chaplain. The bodies of these men were buried in Whitehorse and then transported back to their families in the States after the war.1)
