Sandy Silver

Sandy Silver was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and has degrees in math and psychology from Saint Xavier University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Maine. He moved to Dawson in 1998 and taught math at the Robert Service School. He is a musician and served as president of the Dawson City Music Festival. Silver was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in 2011 and was re-elected in 2016. Premier Silver became leader of the Yukon Liberal Party in 2012 and also served as Minister responsible for the Executive Council Office and Minister of Finance.1)

Silver announced his retirement as premier in September 2022. Reporter and economist Keith Halliday was less than enthusiastic about his accomplishments which included big promises on sustainability, health care, and economic development.2)

Silver’s leadership included some very trying years during the COVID epidemic.
