Sonjaa Schmidt (b. 2003)

Sonjaa Schmidt became the first Canadian to win at the FIS U23 World Championship cross country ski competition. The Whitehorse resident won the Women’s 1.2 km. Sprint Final Free .48 seconds ahead of the second-place racer. Schmidt was a dominant force in Canadian domestic racing during the 2023/24 racing season. Her World Cup debut was in January 2024 with races in Germany and Switzerland.¹⁾
