John Berry Tarleton

John Berry Tarleton was an American botanist who travelled from Skagway to Dawson in 1899. He spent months on the route, looking for rare plants. His collection, sent to the New York Botanical Gardens, included six species new to science and a spiked saxifrage (Saxifraga spicata) that had only been found in Alaska to that date. It would be 110 years before another specimen was found in the Yukon.1)
