Marilyn Carole Taylor (b. 1938)
Marilyn Taylor was born in Whitehorse, the eldest child of Aline Arbour (Cyr) Taylor and Bill (William) Drury Taylor. She is a third-generation Yukoner on both sides. Marilyn finished high school in the Yukon and then attended the University of British Columbia to receive a Bachelor of Education degree in 1962. She taught at F.C. Collins and was with the staff and students who moved into the new building. In 1964, she married Chuck Halliday. They moved to Chilliwack where he was posted with CIBC and Marilyn taught senior high school. They moved back to Whitehorse when Chuck took a position as the Taylor and Drury accountant/office manager. Their children, Keith and Lea Halliday, were born in Whitehorse.1)
Marilyn volunteered in their after-school activities, participated in the Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce activities, bridge club and Eastern Star and helped out behind the scenes at T&D Motors/Taylor Chevrolet. She resumed her teaching career in 1983 in the Business Department at Yukon College and received her Master of Education degree from the University of Western Washington.2)
Marilyn taught at Yukon College [now Yukon University] for nineteen years and retired in 2001 to pursue a busy life travelling, gardening, sewing, and golfing. She supports MacBride Museum and is a director with the Friends of the Archives Board.3)
