Shirley Ann Telep, nee Buyck (1952 - 2018)

Shirley Ann Telep was born in Mayo to Alice and Wesley Buyck (4th child for Alice and 1st child for Wes.) She met her husband Henry while working at the Stewart Crossing Lodge and they moved to Dawson where they were married in 1972. They moved to Mayo in 1974 where son Ryan and daughter Marcia Dee Dee were born. Later as a single mother, Shirley worked as a probation officer in Mayo before joining the RCMP. She was the first First Nation woman to do so in the Yukon. She was known to be kind and generous and was a strong family person who adopted two of her brother's children. She loved to travel, and was an inspiration to all who knew her.1)
