Wayne Vallevand (1964 – 2023)
Wayne Vallevand was Tagish Kwan, a grandson to Julia and Johnnie Joe who lived at Marsh Lake. Vallevand grew up in Whitehorse and started working in the library at Northern Native Broadcasting in 1986. He worked his way up from sound to a camera operator. He started working for CBC in 1994 and won many awards for reporting stories across northern Canada. In 2020, he attended the Tokyo Olympics as a camera operator for CBC.1) He made such an impression that he was asked to attend the 2022 Beijing games. He is remembered as a talented visual storyteller who cared to tell stories properly with respect and consideration.2)
