Ernst Fritz Wohlfarth (1929 – 2019)

Ernie Wohlfarth was born in Gaablau, Germany now part of Poland. The family was forced to move to West Germany in 1946 where Ernie was able to finish his certification as a butcher and sausage maker.1)

He married Ilse (Elsie) Poehls in 1957. They arrived in the Yukon in April 1959 and founded The Deli in Whitehorse in 1968. Ernie was a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers and a founding member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the community until his dementia was too advanced. Ilse died in October 2019 and Ernie died in December of the same year.2)
