Gordon Walmsley (1921 – 1985)

Gordon Walmsley came to Dawson in 1946. He and Lorna Coldron were married in 1950. Walmsley was a twenty-year employee with Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp in the electrical department. He started as a lineman in 1946 and became foreman in the electrical shop in 1952. In 1953, he was promoted to Assistant Electrical Superintendent. In 1959, when Chris Gloslie retired, Gordon was promoted to Chief Electrical Superintendent. Mrs. Lorna Walmsley spent seven years in the Dawson office and after a few years’ absence, joined the Bear Creek staff in 1960. Gordon was later appointed Superintendent for the Northern Canada Power Commission.1)

Gordon and Lorna were ardent photographers and hunters.2) The couple moved to Faro in 1968 where Gordon was responsible for supplying power to the crews constructing Faro and setting up Faro’s water system. He was appointed to Faro’s Advisory Council in 1970, to serve until the municipal council was elected, and then he was elected as an alderman. He was Faro’s first Justice of the Peace and coroner. Gordon Walmsley retired in 1975 and moved to Vancouver.3)
