George Wilfred Norman Wareham (1910 - 1952)
Reverend Norman Wareham was born in Newfoundland and Labrador. He served during the Second World War as a chaplain in the Royal Canadian Navy, 1942 - 1946.1) Wareham and his wife and child arrived in the Yukon in July 1946. They travelled through Whitehorse to Mayo where he took charge of St. Mary’s Anglican Church in town and St. Mark’s at the Old Village.2) He was instrumental in building the Parish Hall in Mayo that opened in 1949 and was extensively used for community events and sports. Reverend Wareham drowned in a boating accident on Mayo Lake in 1951, leaving his wife and three children.3)
The Wareham Dam is named for Norman Wareham.4)
