Pansy Allen (1934 - 2018)
Pansy Allen was born at Johnsons Crossing to parents Jake and Mary Jackson of Brooks Brook. She married Les Allen in 1955 and they had children William (Shawn), Mary (Bill), Minnie (Jim), Patricia (Dan) and Gina (Ken). Pansy had a passion for sewing and traditional crafts. She was an excellent cook and hostess. She loved berry-picking season and spent hours putting up jams and jellies to share with friends.1)
During the 1970s, Pansy Allen, Annie Smith, Sophie Miller, Lily Smith, Dolly Jackson, the Charlie girls, and Florence McIntosh were the most faithful suppliers of beadwork to the Dept. of Indian Affairs craft store that marketed and promoted First Nation crafts in Whitehorse. The women were prolific seamstresses, turning out bags of colourful moosehide slippers and mukluks.2)
