Bert Bratsberg

Bert Bratsberg was hired by Harry Gleaves after his Dawson Yukonia Hotel burned in May 1940. Gleaves sent his theatre manger to Vancouver to buy new equipment and hired Bratsberg to supervise a rebuilding project.1) Bratsberg placer mined on Gold Bottom Creek probably starting in 1947. There was increased interest in mining the older creeks that year by individuals using modern machinery and equipment. Bratsberg was definitely mining on Gold Bottom in 1948 when he recovered 561.23 fine ounces of gold using a bulldozer and a sluice box. He recovered a similar amount using the same equipment in 1949.2) In 1950, he had one employee from 5 May to 30 September and they recovered 355 ounces.3)
