Donjek Brown, The‘ya‘thaya (1918 – 1997)
Donjek Brown was born near the Donjek River with Southern Tutchone ancestry in the Wolf Clan. His parents were Kay Johnson and Johnny Brown. He attended the Carcross residential school for about seven years and then returned to Haines Junction. Donjek played the fiddle and accordion and taught his younger brother how to play the fiddle. He worked as a big game guide, trapper, carpenter and he mined at Shorty Creek. Donjek worked at the Kluane Experimental Farm for ten years, from 1949 to 1959. Donjek and his wife Dorothy Joe (Kane) had two children and Fred also raised two step sons and a step daughter. He and his family with friend Dave Hume could often be seen hunting along the Haines Road.1)
