Gunn Backe

Gunn Bakke was born in Norway. She came to Haines Junction to help her aunt and uncle, John and Sally Backe. She got along well with Norma and Cal Waddington and ended up working at their Dezadeash Lodge. Kirk Yardley (Norma's brother) and Gunn were married in 1968. Kirk had been running the garage at Dezadeash Lodge but sold it in the fall of 1969 and bought a property closer to Kathleen Lake. He and Gunn converted a big house into a cafe and living space and they put in gas pumps and a service garage. They built rental cottages, installed showers for the public, and sold fishing tackle. Kirk and Gunn sold Kathleen Lodge in 1974 and moved to Whitehorse.¹⁾
