Gerald Wayne “Bones” Brown, Kutsia Tà (1951 – 2010)
Gerald Brown was born to parents Dorothy Joe and Donjek Brown, the youngest of six children. He was a member of the Southern Tutchone Crow Clan. His childhood home was across from the Kluane Experimental Farm near Haines Junction. He went to elementary school in Haines Junction and then to Yukon Hall in Whitehorse. In his early twenties, Gerald guided for Rod Hardy, Yukon Guiding, and with Vic Hotte and Dickie and Dave Dickson with Dickson Outfitters. He guided through Isaac Creek, Nisling and Purple Mountain, Albert Creek, Dry Pass and in the Klukshu area. He met Dorothy John and she eventually quit school to make a life with Gerald. The year his daughter Ashly was born, he was elected as a councillor for the Champagne & Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) and he served for four terms. He went through the Yukon Native language Centre program with Yukon College and encouraged all to speak Southern Tutchone. He encouraged youth in sports and in 2010 he helped pull together five CAFN teams for the Yukon Native Hockey tournament. He helped out at numerous potlatches with humour and following tradition.1)
