Homor Benson Billy, K’amo tli’a (1953 – 2024)
Benson Billy was a Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nations citizen, born to parents George and Eva Billy. He was the hereditary chief as a direct descent of hereditary chief George Billy and Strathegan Billy. Benson attended residential school and was challenged by the experience but showed remarkable strength and resilience. He learned mechanics from his father on the shores of Ghost Lake and he shared the stories he learned of his heritage, traditions and the ways of Dooli. In the 1970s, he lived in Takhini where he met Elijah Smith, Walter Smith and Roddy Smith and was mentored with the approval of George Billy. He met Sally and started a family of his own. He moved to Carmacks and started another family with Trudy. They moved to Saskatchewan where Benson operated farm equipment.1)
