Irma Bourassa, nee Praeger

Irma Bourassa was one of the founding members of the Yukon Teacher's Association in 1955 after the arbitrary dismissal of superintendent Jack Hulland by commissioner F. H. Collins. This was the last association to form in Canada. Irma taught at Whitehorse Elementary High School from 1953 to 1965. She then moved to Christ the King Elementary High School as a librarian teacher before she retired in 1985. Irma’s son, Ernie Bourassa, was a Whitehorse mayor for two terms.1)
