John Butterworth

John Butterworth worked for Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp (YGCG) near Dawson in 1964, '65 and '66. He started on the Bull Gang at Dredge #11 on Hunker Creek. After two or three weeks he worked as a bow/stern decker until the end of August and then he went into the Gold Room for September and October. In November, he was transferred to Dredge #9 on Sulphur Creek and he worked there until it shut down. In 1965, he was on #9 Dredge doing repairs and then worked in the Gold Room for the rest of the season and the same the following year. There were two crews working in the Gold Room at Bear Creek. One went out to do the clean-ups on the dredges and they brought the gold back to Bear Creek. The other crew did occasional clean-ups but most worked on processing the gold. John King was in charge of the Gold Room.1)
