Lucie Birckel
Lucie Birckel grew up at Burwash. Her mother was Lilly Allen, born in the Upper Tanana region of Alaska and Aishihik Lake. Her father was Paul Birckel Sr. who came from Alsace-Lorraine to work for his uncles, the Jacquot brothers. Lucie and her brothers went to school and boarded at the Roman Catholic convent in Whitehorse until the family moved to Haines Junction. In the 1970s, Lucie lived in Whitehorse and served as the secretary of the YANSI Whitehorse Local. In the 1980s, she worked with Catherine McClellan in researching and publishing the textbook Part of the Land, Part of the Water: A History of the Yukon Indians.1)
