Mike Blumenschein

Mike Blumenschein moved from Alberta to Whitehorse in 1965 and started an automotive and recreational vehicle shop. He and his wife Sylvia bought an 18-acre farm on the Takhini River Road in 1986. He sold the shop in 1994 and started custom farming and helping others develop or improve their agricultural properties. In 2017, Mike Blumenschein was awarded the Canadian Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers presented by Doug Phillips on behalf of the Governor General of Canada. Blumenschein has been a member of the Yukon Agricultural Association for over twenty years, serving as a secretary, vice president, and five terms as president. He continues to share his knowledge of managing moisture, aeration, feeding the fields, and timing on working the fields.1)

Mike and Sylvia Blumenschein were Yukon’s 2017 Farmers of the Year. The title was awarded at the annual North of 60˚ Banquet in Whitehorse. 2)
