Ron Butler

Ron Butler moved to the Yukon in 1959 after serving in the Navy. He was hired to set up an appliance repair shop at Hougen’s store. In August 1970, he was appointed as one of the Yukon Game Branch’s first game guardians. He did routine patrol and enforcement and then became the first public relations and education officer for the Branch. He developed a hunter training program and annually conducted these courses for young hunters. He was an active hockey player and coach and he founded the Yukon Voyageurs Xanoe Club. The Yukon Commissioner appointed him to organize the Yukon team that participated in the Centennial Canoe Pageant. He and his wife Colleen raised three children in Whitehorse before Ron retired in 1980 and the family moved to Parksville, British Columbia.1)
