William Bruce “Bill” Bowie (1944 – 2013)

Bill Bowie was born in Vancouver and worked for BC Forestry as a young man. After a summer posting in Atlin, he and his wife [Lynn] moved to Dawson in 1971. Bill volunteered as a firefighter, served on the Town Council, and sat on the boards of the Klondike Visitors Association (KVA), Dawson City Chamber of Commerce, and the Yukon Foundation. He helped with events like the Gold Show, The Yukon Quest, and Discovery Days, and helped to organize relief to Eagle, Alaska after a disastrous flood. In 1975, he and his friend [Ralph Troberg] started logging with the intention of building their own homes. They soon had a list of costumers and found themselves in business. Arctic Inland Resources grew, and Bill's products were seen throughout the Yukon, Alaska, and NWT. He updated his sawmill and increased his selective logging. He helped to set up a largescale heating system in Dawson. Bill and Helen were married in 2000 and together they gardened, travelled, and played many card games. Bill always had a cheerful attitude and many quotable sayings like “Lets go do something stupid.” A scholarship was established in his name through the Yukon Foundation.1)
