Betty Casch
Betty Casch was born in Dawson. Her mother was a great friend of Klondike Kate's. Mrs. Casch was a milliner and seamstress and many of the dancehall girls went to her shop. She bought some of the cabins in Klondike City (Lousetown) when the cribs shut down. She collected the things in the cabins and kept them. Betty Casch ended up in Whitehorse, living with Burt Wybrew who was a childhood sweetheart she met again in the Klondike when he was a repo man in the goldfields. Ken McKinnon tried to get the Klondike artifacts for the Dawson City Museum but feuds between old Dawsonites no longer living there prevented it and many objects were sold. When Betty died, McKinnon sent a plea to her nephews saying anything of significance should go back to the Yukon and they sent quite a few boxes. A number of items went to the museum in Whitehorse. Dawson was promised parasols, hats, gloves, lace curtains, tablecloths, fancy dresses and other items.1)
