Charles Sevani “Charlie” Chinery (d. 1918)

Charles Chinnery [Chinery] was from Hollyburn, British Columbia.1) He was a purser on the White Pass & Yukon Route sternwheelers S.S. Dawson and S.S. Whitehorse. He lived in the Chinery House at 505 Wood Street until 1917. The house was built for him about 1908 by Captain Charlie Coghlan. Like Coghlan, Chinery worked during the winter as a stage driver for the White Pass & Yukon Route Royal Mail Service between Whitehorse and Dawson City.2) In 1918, he was a purser on the sternwheeler Whitehorse.. He bought a ticket to Vancouver where his wife lived and drowned when the Princess Sophia sank in the Lynn Canal.3)
