Charles Richard Clark

In 1914, Charles Richard Clark had a homestead on the left limit of the Yukon River at Yukon Crossing. His homestead was against the downstream boundary of the Police Reserve and excluded the government road and the police reserve of 7.45 acres. His homestead application was approved in 1915. In 1919, high water washed away his fences and barn, including some building materials for his house. By 1921, he had a two-story 24' x 28' house and ten acres under cultivation. He left the Yukon for Seattle where he was ill with bowel cancer. He intended to return the next year but he and his wife only made it to Westminster before she had a stroke in the spring of 1922. She died in September of that year. He wrote of his intentions to return home in 1923. In 1930, Clark had been out of the country for several years and there was no address for him. The homestead was cancelled.1)
