Clarence “Clary” Craig (1905 - 2005)
Clarence Craig was born in Dawson to parents Rose and Benjamin Craig. He married Evelyn Chapman, the daughter of Ernest Chapman, and they had two daughters. The family moved to Vancouver in 1924 but Clarence returned north to work.1) Clary became involved with the Vancouver Yukoners' Association in 1928 when the charter for the Association was written. He was the last surviving charter member of the Vancouver Yukoners' Association.2)
Clary worked as a mechanic and in long-haul trucking. He and his family lived at Bear Creek when Clary worked for Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp (YCGC) as Superintendent of Transportation. The family moved to Vancouver in 1950 so the girls, Lorraine and Anita, could receive better schooling. Clary later joined Placer Development (now Placer Dome) from which he retired in the later 1960s. Clary and a partner, George Murdoch, were involved in placer mining on Black Hills Creek in the 1970s. The property was mined by Territorial Gold Placers.3)
