Desmond Fredrick Carroll (1938 – 2002)

Desmond Carroll was born in Dublin, Ireland. He earned BA, MA, and BSS degrees at Trinity College, Dublin. He was ordained in 1970 and was the youth coordinator in Dublin with the Church of Ireland for five years. The family immigrated to Canada in 1976. Carroll was rector of St. David’s Church in Castlegar, British Columbia and associate rector of St. Phillips in Vancouver.1) Desmond, Marion, and their four children moved to the Yukon in 1985 where Carroll was the rector of Christ Church Cathedral and Dean of the Anglican Diocese. He also served as chaplain for the RCMP (M Division) in Whitehorse. Reverend Carroll retired in 2001 after thirty-two years of service to the church in Ireland and Canada.2)

Herbert O’Driscoll’s book, Northern Reflections (2008), is a collection of fifty-six of Desmond Carroll’s Sunday bulletin devotionals illustrated by eight of Ted Harrison paintings. Proceeds from the sale of the book were split between the Old Log Church Museum and the Ted Harrison Artist Retreat.3)
