Dorothy Elizabeth Crayford, nee Peake (1916 – 2010)

Dorothy Peake was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Frank and Nellie Peake. She moved to Victoria and worked for many years in the insurance business. She met her husband, Lawrence, at the Crystal Gardens when attending a dance for soldiers.1) Lawrence’s home was in Dawson.2) Lawrence and Dorothy were married in Dawson on August 4, 1950. Dorothy worked as a secretary/librarian at the Robert Service School until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Eastern Star and volunteered at St. Paul's Sunday School and at the thrift store.3) In 1963, she worked with Mary Gartside, the principal of the Dawson Elementary-High School, as a secretary and part-time librarian. She retired in 1983.4) Dorothy was survived by sons Gerry (Sandra) and Barry (Susan), sister Gwen Cameron in Prince George, and sisters-in-law Irene Crayford and Myrtle Morgan.5)
