Jean-Léon Côté (1867 - 1924)

Jean-Léon Côté was born in Quebec and he arrived in the Yukon in 1890. From 1893 to 1895 he worked on the International Boundary Survey. From 1900 to 1901 he was associated with the Cautley brothers in selling mining properties. In October 1902, he bought forty-five acres along the Stewart River near Duncan [Gordons?] Landing. He left the Yukon during the winter of 1903-04 to live in Alberta where he entered politics. He was named senator in the winter of 1923/24. His son Jean published his biography, Senator Jean Leon Cote, Pioneer, Land Surveyor and Early Legislator: A Personal Biography, in 1992.1)
