Michael Joseph “Mike” Comadina (~1908 - 1973)
Mike Comadina was born in Yugoslavia.1) He worked at many jobs in the Yukon. Dawson's first cocktail lounge opened in October 1951 at the Occidental Hotel and employed Mike and one other person.2) He was the foreman of the bull crew at the Arlington Roadhouse on Hunker Creek.3) He was employed at the Pearl Harbour Bar in 1953.4)
Mike Comadina was elected mayor of Dawson from 1956 to 1961 [1960] when he resigned. He was re-elected in 1971.5) Dawson received direct telephone and telegraph service with the world outside the Yukon in August 1960. Mayor Comadina made the first long distance call and talked with the Canadian Prime Minister.6) He was president of the Yukon Order of Pioneers, Dawson Lodge #1 in 1969.7) Mike Comadina is buried in Prince George.8)
