Dutch Kate

Dutch Kate was the first white woman to reach Forty Mile. She came in the summer of 1887 via the summit and brought one ton of provisions. After the winter of 1887/88 she decided to dispose of her goods and return to Dyea.¹⁾ Ray Stewart heard many times about the “sporting woman” Dutch Kate who came to Forty Mile but did not stay very long.²⁾
