Frank Desales (1894 - 1917)

Frank Desales was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was a miner in Atlin in June 1916 when he enlisted to serve in the First World War. He joined the Yukon Infantry Company in Victoria and went overseas with the 231st Battalion. On arrival in Liverpool in April 1917 he transferred to the 24th Reserve Battalion. He went to France in May and was posted to the 72nd Battalion in June. He was killed during the battle for Passchendaele Ridge. Private Desales was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, Belgium.1)
