Lana Dowey, nee Beebe

Lana Dowey moved to the Yukon in 1982 and started teaching dance. The Can-Can dancers asked her to help with choreography and she joined the group in 1985. Dowey took the dancers all over western Canada, to the Winterlude Festival in Ottawa, and to events in Alaska. She also taught the kids in Kidsezvous. She met her husband David at one of the society's annual general meetings and they were married a year later in a July Rendezvous wedding. In 2007, long-time volunteers Lana Dowey and Myrna Kingscote stepped away from the organization. Dowey had retired many times in the past but this time it was official. “Lacey Legs Lana” Dowey was the choreographer for the Can-Can dancers for twenty years, and also worked in the office as the manager for some years.1) In 2011, Lana Dowie was awarded the Commissioner’s Public Volunteer Service Award for her more than twenty years of tireless service to the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous and other organizations.
