Beth-Anne Exham, nee Gibson
Beth-Anne Gibson graduated from the Anglican Women’s Training College (AWTC) at Trinity College in Toronto. She was a teacher in Ottawa before coming to the Yukon in 1960.1) Beth-Anne arrived at the first of June to teach at the new government hostel in Whitehorse. In 1960, the Chooutola School was reduced to teaching only grades 1 to 4 and the other grades were moved to the so-called Protestant Hostel in Whitehorse. The hostel was operated by Indian Affairs and not by the church. Miss Gibson was also directed to assist with the work of religious education throughout the Diocese.2)
Beth-Anne and Kenah Exham were married in 1964 and posted to Old Crow. At that time Old Crow youth left the community for their higher education and often stayed away after school. Within a year, Beth-Anne started teaching in Old Crow. She adopted Father Mouchet’s ski program and started training some of her students for racing. The Exhams left Old Crow in 1969 when Kenah was posted to a church in Vermillion, Alberta.3)
