Joyce Hintze Elliot (b. 1940)
Joyce Elliot was born in Hughton, Saskatchewan. She and Larry Elliot were married in 1958 and they had two children. Larry was in the police force until 1963 and then they farmed at Elrose until 1969. In 1973, they moved to Whitehorse where Larry’s brother Gary was living. They cut a road in a mile and a half past the Takhini Hot Springs and built a small cabin. They lived for a year without power and water and Larry worked at the Hot Springs in exchange for a parking space with power. In 1975, they moved to River Road and built another home. Joyce worked at cleaning and cooking jobs in Whitehorse and taught her grandmother how to read and write. She and Larry enjoyed travelling and went across Canada on motorbikes.
