John Erik Erickson (1933 – 2023)

John Erickson was born in Whitehorse. He lived and worked in the family business, the Regina Hotel on First and Wood streets. He became the hotel proprietor and was eventually joined by his sister Gudrun Sparling. John was an avid sportsman who organized and operated a ten-pin bowling league, aided in organizing the commercial hockey league, and served as the Softball Canada Commissioner of the Yukon from 1972 to 1985. His hotel sponsored adult hockey and ball teams as well as many youth teams over the years. John was inducted into the Yukon Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.¹⁾
