Ralph Crackmay Ewing (1891 - 1916)
Ralph Ewing was born in Toronto, Ontario.1) He was employed as a clerk in Dawson when he enlisted to fight in the First World War in Atlin, B.C.2) He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Prince Rupert in February 1916 and went overseas with the 102nd Battalion. He arrived in France in August to fight with the No. 2 Company. Private Ewing was killed by shellfire during the assault and capture of Regina Trench near Courcelette.3) His name is engraved into the stone base of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France. The memorial honours those Canadian soldiers who died in action in France and who have no known grave.4)
