Theodore Eggert

Theo Eggert was on the board of trustees that oversaw the management of the Dawson Opera House theatre in early 1900. Eggert took over management of the rival Pavilion in August and performed a renovation to wire it and improve the ventilation and heating. The Opera House reopened as the Standard in early September and Cad Wilson was on the program along with a three-act play. By January 1901, Eggert was managing the bar while amateur actor Alf Layne managed the theatre. By that time the laws prohibited women from soliciting drinks or drinking in the theatre boxes, and Dawson was presenting more legitimate theatre productions. In March, Murray Eads bought out Eggert and partner’s interest in the Standard. The theatre closed in 1902, and Eggert and his wife left town in 1903.1)
