William Andrew “Dad” Ensley (1834 – 1925)

William Ensley was born and raised near Niagara, Ontario. He was a conductor for the Canadian Pacific Railway in eastern and western Canada for twenty-six years. Ensley came north in 1898 and mined on Bonanza Creek for a time. He became a conductor on the Klondike Mines Railway in 1905 and held that position until 1913 when the railway stopped running. He then moved to South Dawson and ran the Arctic Hotel with Thomas Harding. In his spare time he painted pictures and landscapes. He was a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers (YOOP). He suffered from epilepsy and was taken into the hospital as a permanent patient in 1921.1)
