Albert Slim Fred, K’wàlt’us (1917 – 2005)

Albert Fred was born in Whitehorse to Annie Slim of Marsh Lake and Charlie Jackson from Teslin, the eldest of two boys born to Annie Slim. His mother and brother died when he was young and his grandmother, Kitty Slim, raised him and her children Susie Fred, Lily Kane and Frank Slim. Albert was ten when Kitty passed on. Susie Fred took him in and he took her married last name. Albert and Hilda Sam had one daughter, Anna. Hilda passed away in 2003.1)

Albert did many jobs including working on federal government survey crews, wood cutting, on the boats and on the railway. The majority of his working life was spent as a big game guide. He started with Johnnie Johns at age fourteen and also worked for Dennis Collison, Mike Nolan, and Klass Haynan to name a few over the years.2)
