Courtland “Ross” Fooks (1945 – 2023)

Ross Fooks was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and southern Alberta. He apprenticed as a heavy-duty mechanic in Fort McMurray in the early 1960s and moved to Beaverlodge, Alberta in 1965. Fooks drove truck for a number of companies in the north and ran his own Ross Fooks Transport company for specialized transport. In his later year, Fooks lived on the Air North property in Whitehorse and looked after ground support equipment and building maintenance. He had a genius for electrical problems and was considered one of Yukon’s “colourful five percent”. His extensive book collection will form the basis for Whistle Bend Place’s new Ross Fooks library.1)
