Fedelia “Delia” Firth, nee Warrilow (1869 – 1941)

Delia Warrilow was born in Sydenham, Ontario to parents Fanny Wilson and John Warrilow. John was a hotel owner and was married twice to have a total of seventeen children. Delia met her future husband, Thomas A. Firth when she was twenty-three and they married in 1909 when she was forty. Thomas was 5’4” and Delia was 5’9.” Their son, Howard Wesley, was born in 1910. Delia was a Christian Scientist, a member of the IODE, a member of St. Paul’s Women’s Auxiliary, and the secretary/treasurer of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. Delia’s sister Dinah joined the Firths in Dawson from 1912 to 1926 and helped Delia raise Howard. They had a very active social life and fished and camped at their Rock Creek cabin near Dawson. Delia Firth died in Vancouver from complications after surgery to remove a goitre. On the 110th Anniversary of T.A. First & Son insurance Agency, her grandsons Thomas P. and Howard Wesley brought soil back from her grave site and erected a marker on Thomas’s grave in the Dawson cemetery.1)
