Donald Patrick Frizzell (1939 – 2017)

Don Frizzell was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta to parents Harold and Mary Frizzell. He grew up in Dawson Creek where he and Muriel Monk met and married. He worked his way up at Northern Freightways and eventually became the office manager. In 1936, he a colleague bought a small moving and freighting company in Vernon, British Columbia. While in Vernon he earned his pilot’s licence and bought, sold, and flew airplanes. He sold his share in the company and the family moved to Williams Lake where he owned logging trucks and hauled heavy equipment. In 1980, he took the position of freight terminal manager for White Pass & Yukon Route, and then transferred to Dawson to be the fuel plant manager. He had a placer mine on Mt. Nanson that the family enjoyed in the summers.1)

Don returned to Whitehorse in 1986 and took over the Esso Bulk Station which was later renamed Frizell Petroleum. He was a member of the Yukon Workers Compensation Board for a number of years. He bought and operated Willow Printers. Then he was contracted to open the Mackenzie Petroleum agency in Whitehorse. Don Frizzell was long-time member of the Masons and was also a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers.2)
