Michael Fitzgerald (1876 - 1913)

Michael Fitzgerald was a member of the Royal North-West Mounted Police around 1904. He was stationed on the Stikine River with three other officers. The other three started for Wrangel to collect their mail and were drowned. Fitzgerald read about the accident in the paper where his name was listed as one of the lost. In 1913 Fitzgerald was sent to establish a post at Donjek. The steamer Vidette took prospectors up the White River and Fitzgerald was on a barge operating a sweep. Fitzgerald was knocked overboard and drowned. He was buried in Dawson with full military honors.1)
