Charlie Gage

Charlie Gage was one of the more colourful stage drivers for White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) in the early days of the Overland Trail, a winter road between Whitehorse and Dawson. Catholic Bishop Bunoz was on one trip when Gage had drunk all the available liquor by the time they reached Yukon Crossing. They had to take a boat across the river and Bunoz asked Gage to take his baggage to the roadhouse and he would pay him. Gage did and the bishop gave him another drink instead of money. WP&YR manager Herbert Wheeler called Bunoz a valuable tourist attraction for the travelling public.1)
